The Gigi is a new project from Pierluigi and Mario Boglioli, the eponymous brothers behind one the most influential brands in Italian fashion. Growing up in the family tailoring business, Pierluigi 'Gigi' Boglioli eventually found his place in the brand's creative team, and spearheaded development of Boglioli's signature unstructured look and advanced garment dyeing techniques. Proud of past achievements, but with eyes set firmly on the future, Gigi's motto, "DON'T LOOK BACK' is stitched into each of his designs. With a small selection from The Gigi's Autumn/Winter 2014 collection now in stock at Trunk Clothiers, Pierluigi graciously took the time to answer a few questions for us, focussing on our favourite subject: Travel.
Trunk: Hi Gigi! To start, we'd love to hear about some of your favourite local places.
Gigi Boglioli: My house at Lake Garda is the place where I go when I have time. On my Aquarama, I like to go to small restaurants or bars for lunch or just for one drink. The colours are breathtaking sometimes, and there is a very relaxing atmosphere everywhere.

T: What are your favourite travel destinations for work and holidays?
GB: Every year my job brings me to NYC, London, Tokyo and Paris. All of them are fantastic cities that keep evolving and have their own energy and charm, therefore it is difficult to say which is the one I like most. I can only say that I love the approach to work of Japanese people, I like their kindness, and moreover their sensibility to the perception of the NEW.
For my vacations, every time I change my destination. I prefer small places far from conventional points. Always fly and drive, the trip is arranged on the road. I must feel free to go or to stay, it depends on the feeling I have with the place I visit. Rarely do I visit the same place twice.
T: What are your 5 essential for travel?
GB: When I travel I bring with me the necessary: my cotton trousers or jeans, long sleeve T-shirts, an all-seasons peacoat, camera and iPad. The luggage must be as small as possible.
T: What is your favourite shop in the world?
GB: What is exciting in my job is that we often visit new places, and every time you find something new. My favourite shop is the new one.
T: What is your favourite item of clothing?
GB: My new Ziggy Blue DB blazer.
T: Do you collect anything?
GB: Personally, I’m not such of a kind. I don’t like to have possession of things. I prefer to collect images and sensations. What I like instead is to buy small furniture everywhere in the world. This means that the fitting-out of my house is changing really very frequently.
T: Who do you admire in your industry?
GB: I have a good relationship with my eldest brother. He’s the one who started the adventure almost 40 years ago and gave me the chance to enter this magic world. We are still together and that’s it.
